Sports when it was fun
Sports when it was fun
A few years back, when sports was cool, you know before the invention of the Nintendo Play System. Sports was played and stories were told. We would all have our imaginary big leaguers around us, playing the game when no one was watching. Playing for your favorite merchant in the summer leagues, just having fun and talking about sports. Do you ever wonder where that magic moment is? Well if you ever travel north to Alaska, you will find it.
Here is where the College kids play today. Divided up between the Cap Cod League and the Alaska League, the Nations best Collegiate stars play for fun, and maybe a trip to the N.B.C. World Series, and the same excitement as the College World Series is Showcased as these are all truly an All Star Tournament.
When you go there, you see the old pass the hat for money, you see the hot dog guy, souvenirs for sale, a moose walking around, and even at 10:00 PM, you see the sun, no lights here as it is summer here in Alaska! But most of all on these players, you see the youth and vigor of the stars of tomorrow playing for one reason only, fun, as it is summer here in Alaska.
Some recent graduates of the league and players in the majors:
Jacoby Ellsbury, Jeff Francis, Randy Johnson, Jered Weaver, Kurt Suzuki, Jeff Kent, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds and more.
At no level do you get this talent, and a real good guarantee that these guys are going pro. But here in Alaska, they are still that same kid that plays in the park, thinking of what it is going to be like to be in the Majors. As when your a kid, these players know, you are always going to the show.
